About
Round Whirled Records is a family-run independent label based in Alameda, California, co-founded by Greg Landau and Camilo Landau in 2008. We release son jarocho, cumbia, Afro-Cuban rumba, Latin alternative, and whatever other sounds catch our ear.
With over 89 albums in our catalog, our roster spans the Americas — from the son jarocho traditions of Veracruz to Afro-Peruvian rhythms, Cuban rumba, and Bay Area Latin alternative.
Greg Landau
Greg Landau is an award-winning music and video producer with over 100 albums and numerous film soundtracks to his name. He holds a doctorate from UC San Diego and has produced eight Grammy-nominated records, including projects with Susana Baca, Los Cojolites, Omar Sosa, and Juan de Marcos González of Buena Vista Social Club.
Greg began his career in San Francisco’s Mission District in the early 1970s, playing guitar in Latin rock bands. He spent a decade in Nicaragua working with the Ministry of Culture documenting folk traditions, and went on to produce groundbreaking recordings in Cuba and Peru. His compositions have appeared in films including La Mission and Comandante, and TV shows on HBO, CBS, and Showtime.
Camilo Landau
Camilo Landau is a musician, record producer, and concert promoter from the San Francisco Bay Area. He began his musical education at twelve, learning guitar and Cuban tres from his uncle Greg, and by sixteen had performed with Carlos Santana. He later studied music in Cuba and Nicaragua.
Camilo founded the post-Latin group Carne Cruda while at UC Santa Cruz, which has remained active for over 15 years and performed alongside Ozomatli, Los Lobos, and Stevie Wonder. He is a 2016 Grammy nominee, has served as the President of the Recording Academy San Francisco Chapter, and leads the Psychedelic Latin Soul band Camilo y los Cruzers.
